Solid analysis and clever design: Two way thinking

Most thinking is often performed in one direction. That is we think of processes in a linear fashion starting at the resource end (human, capital, materials), project managing these through various processes to convert these into useful products, services, rules and solutions such as urban development, infrastructure, legislation, plans, projects, for our clients. These solutions are then applied within our organisational, urban and transport systems, hopefully as a means to an end, the end being the range of social, economic, environmental, and financial outcomes, that are intended.

At infraPlan we help our clients to design solid solutions that are fit for purpose and economically sound, yet effective in the way outcomes are reached. We do this though strategic and tactical planning methods that start at the other end, the outcome end, asking our clients “what are the outcomes they would like to achieve”, the vision, values and purpose of the challenges at hand. This reverse thinking helps us to uncover a number of policy, infrastructure, design or planning options not previously thought of. We call this two way thinking. It provides our clients with a wider spread of strategies and tactics and in the end a more effective range of solutions.
